In May 2024 the doors opened on Mitchell Court, a new supported accomomodation development of eight one-bedroom flats in Redhill. The flats will provide self-contained, affordable and supported accommodation for homeless and vulnerable people aged between 16 and 25, including young mothers and their babies and young children. Aswell as safe and affordable housing, the development will also provide support and training on matters such as how to maintain a tenancy, employment opportunities and life skills for raising a young family. It is anticipated that each of the young people will stay in the accommodation for approximately 2 years. During this time, the staff will provide a named key worker for each tenant who will support them to build their skills, well-being and confidence so that they can move to more independent living.

The project by Transform Housing and Support aims to:

• Increase provision of self contained accommodation for vulnerable young people
• Improve, innovate and develop housing and support services – particularly by using an innovative modular project utilising unused land to meet unmet housing needs
• Increase sustainability – it is a modular building which will deliver considerable environmental benefits, including a reduction in energy costs and will be virtually Net Zero Carbon in operation

Mitchell Court will leave a lasting legacy in Surrey and will deliver significant impact to the lives of vulnerable young people, ensuring they have a safe place to call home.

Transform Housing and Support is a leading housing support provider in Surrey. The charity, which also works in Wokingham, West Sussex and Sutton, supports people with a range of complex needs, including those experiencing homelessness, marginalised young people, care leavers, and people with mental health issues, as well as people with learning, physical and sensory disabilities, those with drug and alcohol issues, or those who have been victims of domestic crime. 85% of the young people with whom the charity works report having mental health problems. The charity’s mission is to enable homeless and vulnerable people to live independent and fulfilling lives.
