Our mission is to empower people with disabilities or significant disadvantages to reach their full potential. We do this by making awards which focus on building capacity within the charitable sector through a dual-layered funding model.
We make awards over 3 years to capacity-building organisations who deliver training, resources and development support to grass roots organisations at regional or national level. At least 50% of the award is re-granted to grassroots clubs and organisations.
The grassroots organisations benefit from this direct funding as well as capacity-building support to create life-changing opportunities within their communities.
PHF staff proactively identify potential awardees. Many awardees are organisations who have previously received a grant from PHF.
Using this model PHF provides funding in two programme areas:
Active Lives
Opportunities through sport and physical activity
- Enabling life-enhancing opportunities for people with disabilities and/or living in the most deprived areas in the UK.
- Using participation in grassroots sport as a catalyst to develop personal & life skills, and assisting people in fulfilling their potential
Positive Futures
Opportunities for children and young people
- Enhancing the lives of children and young people who are living with disabilities and / or living in the most deprived areas of the UK
