Grant Programmes

The Peter Harrison Foundation makes grants under four programmes:

  • Opportunities through Sport
  • Special Needs and Care for Children and Young People
  • Opportunities through Education
  • Trustees' Discretion

Opportunities through Sport

Applications for this programme are accepted from charities throughout the United Kingdom.

The Trustees wish to support sporting activity or projects which provide opportunities for people who are disabled or otherwise disadvantaged to fulfil their potential and to develop other personal and life skills.

Grants will often be “one off” grants for capital projects. We will, however, also consider revenue funding for a new project or if funding is key to the continuing success or survival of an established project.

The Trustees welcome applications for the following types of project:

  • Projects which provide a focus for skills development and confidence building through the medium of sport

  • Projects that have a strong training and/or educational theme within a sporting activity

  • Projects that provide sporting equipment or facilities for disabled or disadvantaged people

  • Projects with a high degree of community involvement

  • Projects that help to engage children or young people at risk of crime, truancy or addiction

Special Needs and Care for Children and Young People

This programme is exclusively for the South East of England and applications are only accepted from charities meeting the needs of children and young people in the following counties: Berkshire; Buckinghamshire; Hampshire; Isle of Wight; Kent; Oxfordshire; Surrey; East Sussex; and West Sussex.

We do not accept applications from charities based in or operating in London, but may consider funding charities based in London for a specific project taking place in the South East area that meets our criteria.

The Trustees welcome applications for the following types of project:

  • Projects that work with or benefit disabled, chronically or terminally ill children and provide support for their parents and carers

  • Projects that help to engage children or young people at risk of crime, truancy or addiction

  • Projects organised for young people at risk of homelessness or that provide new opportunities for homeless young people

Opportunities through Education

This programme supports education initiatives, primarily in the South East of England, which are of particular interest to the Trustees.

Through this programme the Trustees also fund bursary places for children from the Reigate and Redhill areas in Surrey to enable them to attend Reigate Grammar School.

The Trustees do not invite applications to this programme.

Trustees' Discretion

This programme supports projects that are of particular interest to the Trustees.

The Trustees do not invite applications to this programme.
